How much energy is actually consumed by office lighting? How much electricity do telephones, monitors and computers use? And where and how can we save energy in a way that is meaningful? These questions and many others were addressed by four EUROGATE apprentices in Bremerhaven: Jennifer Bachmann (freight forwarding and logistics services administrator), Vanessa Schulze (bachelor of arts in logistics), Keno Bürgerhoff and Philipp Habermann (electronics technicians specialising in industrial engineering). They agreed to act as “energy scouts” for the company and have already kick-started two projects: they organised an Energy Day on 10 and 11 February in Bremerhaven and they produced training materials for EUROGATE Terminal Service Gesellschaft (ETSG). ETSG will obtain ISO 50001 energy management certification for the first time in 2016.
The “Energy Scouts” project is an initiative of the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) and was rolled out throughout Germany in 2014. Its aim is to inform junior staff about the issue of energy. Ideally, the apprentices will detect energy-saving potential and kick-start projects that will lead to savings. EUROGATE participated in the initiative for the first time in 2015.
