Steel pipes via Wilhelmshaven to Europe

EUROGATE Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven (CTW) has been the gateway to Europe for containers carrying steel pipes from Asia since 2018. From small beginnings, CTW in the meantime handles these containers on a regular and steadily growing basis for its customer Rüttger Stahlhandel GmbH from Usingen near Frankfurt am Main. In Wilhelmshaven, the containers are collected by Albers Logistik Varel GmbH and transported by truck to the Varel logistics centre 30 minutes away.

The Albers logistics company has around 100,000 square metres of covered warehouse space at its disposal at four locations across Northern Germany. In Varel, the company has special equipment such as forklifts and indoor cranes available for handling and storing the goods. Pascal Müller from Albers Logistik explains: “We unload the containers in Varel, professionally store the 6 to 12-metre-long pipes, pick and reship them according to customer specifications to consignees all over Europe.”

Müller is keen to emphasise CTW’s easy accessibility. “Our logistics centre is just 29 kilometres from the container terminal. It can be accessed congestion-free via the A 29 motorway and offers the highest safety standards and smooth handling processes. This ensures that the goods reach our logistics centre without delays and are quickly available for the customer Rüttger Stahlhandel.” Up to 15 containers a day carrying round and sectional pipes of various diameters are currently delivered to CTW – and this figure is on the rise.

Rüttger Stahlhandel GmbH imports around 80,000 tonnes of steel to Europe annually. The company is satisfied with the initial results of its new business via Wilhelmshaven. Since it started up roughly a year ago, business via Wilhelmshaven has developed positively, a spokesperson for the company affirmed. Albers Logistik has responded accordingly and is currently expanding its warehousing capacities in Varel.
