    EUROGATE Intermodal extends European network

EUROGATE Intermodal (EGIM) expands its service portfolio. With effect from January 2020, the Hamburg-based provider of international intermodal container transport will offer up to seven round-trip departures per week between German seaports and Budapest. Of these, four round trips per week will run directly between Germany and Hungary and three connections per week will be handled by EGIM via its Munich hub, providing links to further European destinations.

This direct connection between Germany and Hungary offers a fast and reliable transport option with a transit-time of less than two days. The additional route via the hub in South Germany offers EGIM customers numerous other transport options. For instance, the services via Munich will provide new connections between Budapest and the western ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp. For the first time, Budapest is now also connected to Melzo/Milan, which in turn provides a link to Ligurian ports. In this way, customers will benefit from additional, more flexible connections within continental Europe.

Lars Hedderich, Managing Director of EGIM, explains: “From January, we will offer our customers additional transport corridors between northern and western ports and the growing Hungarian market. This new service offering also links Italy more closely to our existing network via the hub Munich.”

For this expansion, EGIM is using the Budapest-based railway company Floyd Zrt, in which it holds a majority interest of 64 percent. Floyd will act as the traction partner on the main route between southern Germany and Hungary. As part of this cooperation, EGIM will also be able to offer domestic transportation within Hungary via its Budapest rail hub. EGIM’s interests in Hungary are represented by I.C.E. Transport Hungary Kft.
