      1999: foundation of EUROGATE

      In the mid-1990s the global container shipping lines form an increasing number of alliances. This development necessitates strategic rethinking on the part of container terminal operators. Following many years of negotiating between EUROKAI (Hamburg) and the BLG Logistics Group (Bremen) the two companies consolidate their container activities. EUROGATE was founded, giving rise to Germany’s biggest container terminal group. As part of the negotiations, EUROKAI brings 33.4 percent of the shares in Italy’s biggest container terminal operator Contship Italia into the newly established company.

    • boxXpress

      2001: EUROGATE extends its range of services

      The EUROGATE subsidiary, EUROGATE Intermodal, founds together with European Railshuttle (ERS) and TX Logistics Germany’s first private rail company for freight transport, boxXpress.de. Transportation of containers by rail from Hamburg and Bremerhaven to seven destinations is now possible. Since 2007 boxXpress.hu has operated to Budapest/Hungary.

    • EUROKOMBI

      2002: in Hamburg, Germany’s biggest container rail terminal is built.

      EUROKOMBI, Germany’s biggest container rail terminal for combined freight transport, goes into operation at the EUROGATE Container Terminal Hamburg. The rail terminal today has a capacity of 700,000 unit loads. EUROKOMBI is a joint venture between the EUROGATE Container Terminal Hamburg GmbH and Kombiverkehr Deutsche Gesellschaft für kombinierten Güterverkehr mbH& Co.KG, Frankfurt am Main.

      2004: a "dedicated terminal" for MSC in Bremerhaven

      Strategic alliances are one of EUROGATE’s strengths. With the founding of the MSC Gate Bremerhaven joint venture, EUROGATE succeeds in bringing the world’s second largest shipping line permanently to Bremerhaven. MSC Gate Bremerhaven is a joint-venture of EUROGATE and TIL Terminal Investment Limited, an innestment company of MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company.

    • Zuschlag für Wilhelmshaven

      2006: EUROGATE wins contract for the operating concession in Wilhelmshaven

      Several years of preparatory negotiations finally pay off: following a Europe-wide tendering procedure, EUROGATE wins the contract for the operating concession for Germany’s only deep-water container terminal in Wilhelmshaven.

    • CT4 in Bremerhaven

      2008: new CT4 terminal section in Bremerhaven

      The new CT4 terminal section in Bremerhaven is completed. The quayside is extended by one third and now measures 4,680m. The handling area is increased to a total 2.9 million m². The Bremerhaven location has a total handling capacity of 7 million TEUs.

    • Tanger

      2008: EUROGATE Tanger takes up operations

      In 2005 the EUROGATE, Contship Italia, MSC, COMANAV and CMA CGM consortium obtained the operating concession for the Tanger Med I container terminal in Morocco, directly on the Strait of Gibraltar. Construction gets under way in 2006. EUROGATE is lead project manager. The geostrategically conveniently located EUROGATE Tanger Container Terminal takes up operations in 2008.

    • Ust-Luga

      2011: Ust-Luga Container Terminal goes into operation

      The Ust-Luga Container Terminal, 100 km west of St. Petersburg, operated by the Russian terminal operator NCC goes into operation on 29 December 2011. EUROGATE has a 20% holding. The Ust-Luga Container Terminal is a strategic complement to the new deep-water container terminal in Wilhelmshaven.

    • Wilhelmshaven

      2012: official inauguration of the EUROGATE Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven

      On 21 September 2012, the EUROGATE Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven starts operations as the only deep-water container terminal on the German North Sea coast. The "Maersk Laguna" is the first container vessel to dock. The terminal starts operations after the first construction phase with a quay length of 1,000 m. The second phase with 725 m is to follow in 2013.

    • Contrail

      2015: EUROGATE has acquired 16.67 per cent of CONTRAI

      EUROGATE has acquired 16.67 per cent of CONTRAIL Logistica S.A., located in Cubatão, Brazil, a provider of intermodal transport solutions in the hinterland of Santos. Santos is Brazil’s largest sea port and, with over 3.6 million TEU handled here last year, it is South America’s largest container port.

    • Limassol

      2016: EUROGATE takes over container terminal in Cyprus

      In April, the Cypriot Transport Ministry and EUROGATE signed the contract for the takeover of Limassol Container Terminal. The consortium partners are EUROGATE (60%), Interorient (20%) and East Med (20%).

       

      The EUROGATE Group’s 12th terminal is a strategic addition to the network. EUROGATE is now present throughout the entire Mediterranean region.

       

    • Tanger Alliance Terminal

      2021: Second location in Tangier starts operation

      On January 1, 2021, Tangier Alliance, (also known as TC3 in TangerMed II) started operations, becoming the second location in Tangier. A consortium of EUROGATE, Contship Italia, Marsa Maroc and Hapag-Lloyd operates this container terminal located on the Strait of Gibraltar.
