Audi vehicles by rail to China

Since October, six times a week container block trains have been transporting Audi vehicles from Bremerhaven to China. The Container Freight Station (CFS) stows the Audi limousines and SUVs in 40-foot containers, two to a box. The containers are then loaded onto trains at the EUROGATE Container Terminal Bremerhaven.

The rail service links Europe partly along the “New Silk Road” with the Chinese cities of Chongqing and Chengdu. To cover the approximately 11,000 kilometres’ distance, the trains need 18 to 20 days. They thus generally reach dealers’ showrooms three weeks earlier than if they were transported by sea.

The Chinese logistics company Changjiu Logistics is a customer of CFS. It organises consolidation and transport of the vehicles and onward transport to the Chinese dealers. By the end of this year, it is planned to transport some 5,000 Audi vehicles from Bremerhaven to China via this route.

Since the beginning of 2019, another well-known German car manufacturer also uses the possibilities of the CFS to stow cars in containers. By the end of 2019, it will have exported roughly the same amount of vehicles to China via Train.
