Logistics in his genes: Aaron Spandehra, sales employee at EUROGATE Intermodal (EGIM) in Hamburg

It’s in his blood. His grandfather and his parents ran a haulage company and even as a youngster, Aaron Spandehra knew that later he wanted to do something in the field of transport and logistics. “As a 19-year-old, I drove past the Hamburg container terminal with a truck and I wondered what it would be like to work here”, he remembers. This wish became a reality. The school leaver applied and was awarded a place.

He started his training as a specialist for freight forwarding and logistics services with EUROGATE Intermodal (EGIM) in 2007. Since 2010, he has worked in the sales department at the EUROGATE Group’s transport services provider. “I am responsible for introducing EGIM to our customers and partners as an attractive services provider and problem solver,” he says. “Our international network also enables us, for example, to offer transnational transportation solutions with Hannibal in Italy.” EGIM organises tailor-made intermodal container transport by road and rail in Germany and Europe. Wilhelmshaven is of course also integrated into the rail system. Aaron Spandehra mostly carries out administrative duties, maintains contact with customers and is responsible for conditions and agreements. “My personal highlight at EGIM was the realisation of the “grain trains”. By transferring maize and meal from road to rail, in excess of 100 containers are in the meantime transported on weekly round trips between Hamburg and Hungary.”

Additionally, he is becoming increasingly familiar with marketing and PR functions. “In close consultation with the EUROGATE communication department, we develop ideas and strategies to draw attention to our company and make it more attractive to external contact partners,” the 26-year-old says.

Growing up in Kyritz in Brandenburg, Spandehra is highly motivated and knows what he wants. “I want to get on in life and improve my career chances,” he says. Therefore, since joining the company in 2010, he has actively pursued in-service continuing education, qualifying as a logistics and business economist at the Hamburg Administration and Business Academy. His latest project is to write his Bachelor’s thesis in the field of business and economics.

Now, anyone who thinks the young man has almost no time to relax is only almost right. “My girlfriend and I have recently bought a house on the outskirts of Hamburg, so of course we are spending a lot of time and energy doing it up.” But he does still have one other dream. “I once went skydiving a couple of years ago. Doing it in free fall was fascinating. It’s a sport I’d quite like to take up one day.” (Photo 2)
