Installation vessel “Pacific Osprey” made fit

For three weeks, from 7 to 26 June, the “Pacific Osprey” was berthed at the southern tip of CT 1 in Bremerhaven. The dedicated vessel belonging to the Danish Swire Blue Ocean line is one of the largest installation vessels (160 metres long and 49 metres wide) in the world. It can operate in virtually all weathers, has its own propulsion system with up to 13 knots and can transport up to 12 complete turbines at once – which is more than most other installation vessels.

The ship has been fitted out in Bremerhaven by the Lloyd Shipyard for installation of the foundations for the Gemini offshore windfarm in the Dutch North Sea. For example, it has been equipped with a so-called pile gripper for securing and installing the enormous foundation piles for the wind generators.

EUROGATE supported the fitting out of the ship by providing the berth and logistics services, such as the handling of components with container gantries and mobile cranes. “Our infrastructure and the flexibility of our staff came up trumps once again,” says Friedrich Stuhrmann, Commercial Director of EUROGATE Container Terminal Bremerhaven.
