First port call of the CSCL “Arctic Ocean” in Wilhelmshaven

After the first ship in the Ocean Alliance shipping consortium, the “OOCL Tianjin”, tied up at EUROGATE Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven a week previously, the second call of the shipping consortium followed in mid-May.

The 400m "CSCL Arctic Ocean" serves the Asia-North Europe 1 trade lane, in terms of ship capacities the largest service in the Ocean Alliance itinerary. The service will be operated by 11 of the world’s largest container ships in the future, including six new builds belonging to OOCL shipping line with a transport capacity of just under 22,000 TEUs, and the flagship of the COSCO shipping line of the type “CSCL Globe” (19,000 TEU class).

The ship was welcomed at EUROGATE Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven by Olaf Lies, Lower Saxony’s Minister for Economic Affairs, Labour and Transport. He said that he was in no doubt that the port call was an important signal for customers and extolled the port location: “There is no question about the exceptional capabilities of the EUROGATE team and the ideal nautical conditions in Wilhelmshaven.”
