27.03.2020 - Hamburg. First of a total of six new container gantries successfully delivered to EUROGATE Container Terminal Hamburg.

The first of a total of six new container gantry cranes destined for EUROGATE Container Terminal Hamburg was delivered this afternoon.

The six new container gantries are being manufactured by Liebherr Container Cranes from Ireland. They are designed for the handling of ultra-large container ships with up to 24 rows of containers on deck. The spreader has a lifting height of 70 metres, and the load-bearing part a lifting capacity of 66 metric tons. Each gantry weighs in at 2,100 metric tons.

The gantries are being delivered in individual parts for final assembly at the southern end of the container terminal in Bremerhaven before being loaded onto a pontoon and shipped to Hamburg.

Delivery of all six cranes – subject to the further development of the coronavirus pandemic – is expected to be completed by the end of the first half-year 2020. As things currently stand, commissioning of the cranes is planned for early in the second half of 2020.

With these new gantries, EUROGATE is getting ready for the ever-larger ships already calling at the Port of Hamburg and thus investing in the future viability of this location.
